At the age of 28, young Dustin Haarstad is already an established cocktail craftsman, having worked in bars as soon as he was legal. Originally from Seattle, WA, Dustin credits his love for the crafted adult beverage to a college friend who introduced him to Murray Stenson of (formerly) Seattle’s Zig Zag Café, winner of American Bartender of the Year at the 2010 Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans. Presently, Dustin serves as a Brand Ambassadors and Mixologists for Tequila Fortaleza and operates his own cocktail creation company, San Diego-based Blind Tiger Cocktail Co., with his business partner Adam Stemmler. This May he’ll be representing San Diego at the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, one of the biggest cocktail events in the States. Alain Ducasse, Bobby Flay, Nobu Matsuhisa added to Vegas Uncork’d lineup + new wine uncorking record
May 10 - 13 in Las Vegas
Bon Appétit’s Vegas Uncork’d has announced the addition of three chefs: Alain Ducasse, Bobby Flay and Nobu Matsuhisa to the event lineup this coming May at yesterday’s record breaking wine uncorking. In celebration, 308 bottles of Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon were uncorked. Over 300 chefs and sommeliers gathered from Bellagio, Caesars Palace, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay and broke the previous uncorking record of 252. The event will be held May 10 – May 13, 2012 at four Las Vegas resorts: Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and Mandalay Bay. Tickets are available at vegasuncorkd.com.

Celebrating International Women's Day
A16 in San Francisco’s Cow Hallow will celebrate International Women’s Day, or Festa della Donna, with a charity dinner featuring more than forty wines by female winemakers on March 8 from 5:30 – 10 PM. In celebration of women present and past, A16 chef David Taylor has collaborated with chef and author Joyce Goldstein and winemaker Lorenza Sebasti Pallanti, of Italy’s Castello di Ama Estate in Tuscany, to prepare a menu for this one-night event. 15% of the evening’s proceeds will go to La Cocina, an organization helping low income entrepreneurs formalize and grow their businesses. 2355 Chestnut St, San Francisco, CA 94123. 415-771-2216.
