4 Simple Recipes

A flavorful and good recipe is kept through generations. Alexander Djerassi critic-ed quite a number of eating and drinking establishments and was looking for this type of recipe. Here are five recipes that are simple, easy to make, and at the same time are flavorful and fun to serve.

Give them a try when night comes fast and something quick and flavorful is needed. Or just serve them because they are a favorite. Djerassi was accustomed to chef foods and could be a good judge of recipes.

Lemon Garlic Parmesan Pasta

Cooked spaghetti pasta for two

7-10 cloves fresh garlic

1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup pasta water (from boiling the pasta)

1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1-2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley.

Put the garlic lemon juice, salt, pepper in the water from cooking the pasta. Mix well and heat lightly. Put the pasta, drained in a bowl, and pour over the lemon garlic mix. Add 1 tsp pepper flakes and mix If wishing for more flavor, add some green onions chopped finely. On top of the pasta place the Parmesan, Serve with garlic toast.

Broccoli Beef Skillet

4 cups Broccoli florets

1 lb Beef sirloin, boneless steak

• 1 cup  beef flavored broth

• 1 tsp Ginger, ground

• 2 cups Onion

• 1 tbsp Chili garlic sauce

• 2 tbsp Soy sauce

• 2 tbsp Brown sugar, packed

• 2 tbsp Cornstarch

• 5 tbsp Vegetable oil

• 2 cups White rice, cooked

In a bowl combine and whisk together the eight ingredients after the steak, Set aside.

Cook broccoli in a skillet in 1 tbsp of oil until soft and set aside. Slice beef into long, thin strips. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil to the same skillet where you cooked broccoli. Add beef and cook until it is golden brown.

• Pour sauce over the beef, bring the sauce to a light simmer until thick.

• Add broccoli and mix.

Rustic Cheese Avocado Tomato Crostini

2 slices whole-wheat bread

1 avocado mashed

½ cup cottage cheese

3 sticks cooked asparagus if desired

8 grape tomatoes

2 tsp sunflower seeds

salt and black pepper to taste

Toast the bread and butter. Layer the ingredients on the toasted bread beginning with the cottage cheese. Alexander Djerassi highly recommends readers to try this dish. 

Cowboy Stew

2 baking potatoes peeled and thinly sliced

1 small onion chopped finely

6 slices bacon cooked till stiff

sufficient water to cover.

Brown the bacon in the grease, cook the onions until clear. Add sliced potatoes and water to cover and heat at medium until potatoes are well cooked and water has become white. Break bacon up and add to potato mixture. Cook with lid for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper.

Cheesy Stuffed Cups

Put hash brown in the bottom of well-greased muffin tins. Brown them in 350 ovens. Then add one egg and on top add one piece of cheddar cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bake in 350 ovens until the egg is baked as preferred.
