1. Don’t Forget to Check the Size and Fit

You go to put it into your kitchen and it’s way too big to fit into the nook that the old fridge left. You could probably tear down one of the dividers or sand some height off of the top of the nook, but ultimately, this is going to be a costly job.
In other words, you need to do some measuring beforehand. Measure the current fridge that you have and measure the space that the fridge is nestled in. You might be able to get away with a fridge slightly smaller or bigger than the one you have currently as long as it fits within that space.
Going too small isn’t a huge deal, it might just be an aesthetic issue. Going too big, though, is going to be a problem.
2. Make Sure You Get the Right Style
Not all fridges are alike. If you’ve never bought your own fridge before, it’s likely that you’re used to the standard fridge or the top freezer refrigerator.
When you’re doing your browsing, you might make the mistake of only looking at these. However, did you know that you don’t necessarily have to stay in that box, especially if you have a decent amount of room in your refrigerator nook?

So the fridge that you’ve chosen is the right style and dimensions-wise, it seems to be the right size. You’re in the clear, right?
Well, maybe.
Make sure that you’re checking the capacity of the fridge (and freezer) itself. A big flashy exterior with a cramped interior makes for a very useless refrigerator, especially if you’re someone who keeps a lot of perishable food on hand.
Often this will be included with the dimensions, but just ensure that you’re reading everything correctly before you place your final order.
4. Check Around for Features
So you’ve got the style, the size, the capacity; you’re all done, right?
Not quite.
Did your old fridge have an ice maker? What about a water spout and filter? Did it have a little smart panel with the weather or some apps on it? Would you like any of these things?
Why go without if you’re already spending the money on a new refrigerator?
You’re probably not going to be able to get everything that you want in one fridge, but don’t neglect all of the features that you’d like just because you’re so used to not having them. Buying a refrigerator is a chance to get these features.
These things are convenient, and if you can get one or two of them on your new fridge, you’ll probably be thanking yourself later. Make a list before you shop of all of the things that you’d like your fridge to have from most important to least important. This will help you narrow down your choices substantially.
5. Internet Price Shop
Price shopping online can be a bit of a risky game, but it’s definitely worthwhile on a high-expense item like a major appliance.
Once you’ve found your dream fridge, keep that tab open. Then, take the image of the fridge and use Google image search to see what other shops it comes up in.
You can then go to all of those sites and see if any of them are offering better deals on your refrigerator, or if they have any current applicable discount codes available to you. This is a bit of a tedious process, but you could end up saving hundreds of dollars if you get lucky enough.
That makes the price shopping worthwhile.
Make sure to check reviews of the sites and refrigerators to make sure that the prices aren’t too good to be true. Sometimes sites aren’t all that they seem on the surface.
