‘Greenest restaurant in the country’ awarded to Chicago’s Uncommon Ground

Ever wonder what the ‘greenest’ restaurant in America is? Uncommon Ground in Chicago is being celebrated for implementing 116 environmental steps making them a 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant in 2011.

They produce no waste, power their vehicles with fryer oil, use solar power to heat their water and sustainable produce sourced locally or from their own rooftop farm. Their rooftop farm was awarded “First Certified Organic Roof Top Farm in the Country” by M.O.S.A. in 2008. Other awards include “Best New Restaurants” from Chicago Magazine in 2008, the “Governor Sustainability Award” in 2010 & 2011, and more.

Even their amenities are made from reclaimed wood.
