4 Ways to Trim Your Weekly Expenses to Afford a New Car

If you’re looking to buy a new car, it’s important to look for ways to trim money out of your weekly budget to be able to afford a new one. Buying a new car is expensive, so spending less on some of your other weekly expenses is essential if you’re looking to make money back by buying.

1- Cut Streaming Services or Cable

While streaming services or cable are great entertainment options to have, they aren’t necessities. One of the easiest ways to trim your weekly budget is to cut these entertainment options. If you still want to have some of them available, even trimming just one streaming service or downgrading to the most basic cable service will make a huge difference. Libraries offer many DVDs you can rent for nights when you want to relax and be entertained by the TV.

2- Stop Eating Out

If you have the luxury of a kitchen at home, try to make all of your meals with what you already have in the pantry and freezer from earlier shopping trips. While this may not be feasible for everyone, it’s a habit you should take on if you can. Planning your meals for the week will save money over eating out all the time. Not only will this allow you to save money for your new vehicle, but it will also help improve your health too.

3- Cancel Your Gym Membership

If you’re paying for a gym membership, look hard at how much you go. Many of us pay for a gym membership and then never go. If you’re not going enough to warrant the cost, you should cancel your membership. There are a number of fitness resources available online that you can use to help stay in shape, or you can take advantage of free fitness options like running or biking around your neighborhood. As an alternative to completely canceling your gym membership, you could look at cheaper gym memberships.

4- Shop the Sales

Shopping the sales will save you money if you apply it to every item you purchase. Planning your weekly meals should be done based on what is on sale this week at the grocery store. If you need a specific clothing item, look at different stores so you can see which one gives you the best option. Also, if you don’t need it, don’t purchase it. You can save a large amount of money by cutting out unnecessary purchases. When you go to purchase an item, ask yourself if you actually need it and if you already have something that will suffice at home.

When you find yourself in need of a new car but are struggling with how you’re going to afford it, don’t panic. You can cut down on unnecessary spending, and even saving only $50 a week will go a long way in helping you afford a new vehicle. Remember that you don’t have to have the fanciest vehicle on the market; you just need to find one that  best matches your needs.
